C Darren Barker, who works for the Operation Reacher team, which disrupt and dismantle drug dealing across Nottinghamshire, described how cannabis production had been rife during the pandemic.
He told Nottinghamshire Live: “Cannabis has gone massive. I have been a police officer for 15 years and it has never been as big as it is now.
“Every week we are doing something cannabis-related, whether it is a grow or seizure.
“We went to one where a man told us he had given up his job and was growing cannabis with two kids in the house.
“It was a proper business running it from home. He had a heat sealing machine and was sending it off in the post so it did not smell.
“He had a small grow upstairs and then downstairs was his factory with jars of different strains of cannabis and he was just taking orders and posting it out to customers.”
Detective Superintendent Mike Allen, who tackles serious organised crime across Nottinghamshire, said: “We hear all weird and wonderful stories.
