Simon Polglase’s barrister said he was caught out by how big the plants could get
A former town council finance officer and deputy clerk has landed himself in trouble again after police raided his home and found 34 cannabis plants.
Simon Polglase, 54, worked for Falmouth Town Council before being dismissed following a conviction for fraud in 2012.
Polglase, of Halamanning near Goldsithney, was back in the dock, this time at Truro Crown Court to be sentenced after pleading guilty to production of cannabis and possession of cannabis.
During the sentencing hearing the court was told how police executed a search warrant at Polglase’s home in September last year and found polytunnels that were being used for the production of cannabis.
Police seized 34 plants that were as tall as six feet, the drugs worth between £16,000 and £21,000. A search of the home found various stashes of different forms of cannabis, said to be worth an additional £1,500.
When interviewed Polglase told police the cannabis was all for his personal use, although the prosecution did state that some of it was packaged up, seemingly for onwards distribution.
Polglase has a conviction of supplying MDMA some years ago.
